Injuries Piling up as Patriots are Once Again Thin in the Secondary

Aqib Talib grabbed his hip after seeing just one play on defense and missed the entire second half with a hip injury that had been ailing him since he hurt it against the San Francisco 49ers.  With Alfonzo Dennard also down and Marquice Cole suffering an injury against the Jaguars, the Patriots are once again very thin in the secondary.

Talib entered the Jacksonville game after the New England secondary was picked apart on the game's opening drive.  While on the field, he continued to grab his hip and was permanently removed from the game after only eight defensive snaps.  With Alfonzo Dennard also out after suffering an injury against the 49ers, Devin McCourty was forced to move from safety to corner, where he has been much less effective this season.

"I'm definitely getting better, working every day trying to get better, and we'll see what happens," Talib said of injury

The status of Talib, Dennard, and linebacker Brandon Spikes, who sat out Sunday's game with knee and ankle injuries, is uncertain for this week and for the playoffs, which are only two weeks away.  A first round bye is even more important for the Patriots now, to give their ailing defense an extra week to heal.  Talib, Spikes, and Dennard along with 17 other Patriots have been limited at practice all week.
