The Patriots ended Donte Stallworth's season by placing him on injured reserve after he suffered a high ankle sprain during his 63-yard one handed touchdown reception Monday night against the Texans. Stallworth had just re-signed with the Patriots for the third time in his career last week. Veteran Deion Branch has been resigned to replace him.
Branch has already been released twice by the Patriots this season. However, the most recent release was considered an opportunity for him to heal from a strained hamstring. The contents of his locker was never removed, and Branch expected to return to the Patriots this season.
"This is where I want to be," Branch, who had been contacted by other teams after his release, said. "Someone else may be different. I can only speak for myself. This is where I want to be; this is where I want to retire. That kind of makes everything a lot more easier."
Veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe was also released. He was activated to the 53 man roster on Nov. 10 and did not record a reception despite playing in four games for Patriots.Tags: Deion Branch, Donte Stallworth, Football, injured reserve, New England, New England Patriots, NFL, Visanthe Shiancoe
