Jovan Belcher, the 25 year old Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, fatally shot his girlfriend Kassandra Perkins at their home on Saturday morning. He then drove to the team's facility and took his own life in front of head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli.
Pioli and Crennel had been speaking with Belcher, who turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger as police arrived on the scene.
"He was not threatening employees at all. He was just talking to them and thanking them for everything they had done for him," said Kansas City police officer Darin Snapp.
Belcher and Perkins, parents of a three month old daughter, got into an argument at around 7:00 A.M. Saturday morning. At approximately 7:50 A.M. Belcher shot Perkins multiple times. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Belcher was in his fourth year with the Chiefs after being signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2009. In the 2011 season he become the Chiefs' starting inside linebacker. He recorded 179 career tackles and a sack.Tags: Football, Jovan Belcher, Kansas City Chiefs, New England, New England Patriots, NFL, Romeo Crennel, scott pioli
