The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, as he usually does, put together a quick post about likelihood of participants in tonight's New England Patriots – Tampa Bay Buccaneers match up.
Quite a few who look to start the first game of the season most likely won't see action in south Florida tonight. Twelve players, including Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Jerod Mayo, didn't step onto the field at Gillette Stadium earlier this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. It's plausible these players will see some sort of time tonight.
Here's Howe's prediction:
"Right guard Brian Waters: 20 consecutive absences (hasn’t reported)
Tight end Jake Ballard: 20 consecutive absences (PUP list)
Defensive lineman Myron Pryor: 20 consecutive absences (PUP list)
Tackle Markus Zusevics: 20 consecutive absences (PUP list)
Linebacker Tracy White: 17 consecutive absences
Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe: 16 consecutive absences
Tackle Matt Kopa: 14 consecutive absences
Defensive lineman Gerard Warren: 9 consecutive absences
Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney: 4 consecutive absences
Safety Patrick Chung: 2 consecutive absences."
On the flip side, fans could see several players for the first time this preseason including running back Jeff Demps, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, fullback Spencer Larsen, guard Logan Mankins and tight end Daniel Fells.Tags: Alfonzo Dennard, Football, jeff demps, Jerod Mayo, Logan Mankins, New England, New England Patriots, NFL, Philadelphia Eagles, Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady
