Silver Medalist Jeff Demps Makes His Transition Back to Football

Rookie New England Patriots running back/special teamer Jeff Demps made his debut today in a state he's rather familiar with.

In Day 1 of the Patriots' joint training with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the recent silver medalist got in on the action after waiting the NFL allotted three days after signing. To throw a little bit of salt on the wounds: the Bucs were also in the mix for the opportunity to ink the former University of Florida Gator.

Ultimately (and obviously) the New England provided what Demps was looking for in a team.

"Once I talked to the Patriots, I kind of got the feeling that’s where I wanted to be,” Demps said. “Everything was just family based, like I was already a part of the team."

"Demps worked with the kick returners during the walkthrough portion of practice, and he was spotted dropping a pass during positional drills before the media had to leave the field," reported Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

Howe also said Demps was one of the final players to leave the practice field after running routes and catching passes from a coach.

“That’s probably going to be the toughest part, just getting back to that football shape, learning the plays,” he said. “It’s tough,” Demps said. “I knew it was going to be tough, but I got the mindset to do whatever it takes."

It's very possible the rookie could see some action in Friday night's game against the Bucs.
