Ah, football season. You are finally here, and it's about time!
The New England Patriots square off against the New Orleans Saints this evening. And with teams not having to submit an injury report, it's tough to say who's going to spend time still recovering during this early preseason match up.
Jeff Howe from the Boston Herald took a stab at picking players that will most likely not see Gillette's gridiron. Here's his take from observations he's made studying practices in Foxboro:
"First, let’s start with wide receiver Deion Branch, who has been present for every practice but hasn’t participated in team drills in more than a week. It’s unlikely he’ll play for that reason.
I’ll separate the rest of them into two groups. The first group certainly won’t play because they haven’t practiced. The second group more than likely won’t play because they’ve been out for at least several days.
Players who have yet to practice: Right guard Brian Waters, left guard Logan Mankins, right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, tight end Daniel Fells, tight end Jake Ballard, defensive lineman Myron Pryor, tackle Markus Zusevics.
Players who have missed at least three straight practices: cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (missed 10 straight), linebacker Tracy White (nine), tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (eight), defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene (seven), fullback Spencer Larsen (six), tackle Matt Kopa (six), defensive lineman Ron Brace (four), linebacker Brandon Spikes (three) and tackle Kyle Hix (three)."
