New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle to repair torn ligaments today at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. George Theodore performed the operation, reported Liz Mullen of the Business Sports Journal.

Gronk injured his ankle in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. After sitting out of practice for nearly two weeks leading up to Super Bowl XLVI, the record-setting tight end played in the championship game, receiving two passes for 26 yards versus the New York Giants in the 21-17 loss.

On a belated and opinionated note, it's unlikely Gronk's jumping and dancing at the after party did any more damage to his ankle than playing on it earlier that day.

I joke.

New England fans were heartbroken after the loss. I mean, c'mon. It was the Giants and Eli. Nobody worse to lose to right now. And many Patriots fans became even more upset when a couple of their beloved players partied that night.

The thing is, it was their off time. Gronk and Matt Light finished work for the day, so they relaxed.

Who wants to take work home with them? Nobody. Most people want to get away, escape from the happenings of the work force.

It's the same with professional athletes.
